Last November, San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin tweeted that he was suing three ghost gun manufacturers because the guns are untraceable and a growing crisis throughout California and the nation. What Boudin didn’t mention is how he handles the cases against those caught with illegal weapons, ghost or otherwise.
Don't forget about Kelvin Chew. His murderer, Zion Young, was caught with a gun (a ghost handgun, exactly the type of gun Boudin has been making noise about prosecuting). He was charged with multiple felonies. Chesa dropped or reduced charges to one misdemeanor. Young went on to kill Chew in a robbery. I'm so disappointed to see the SF Chron and other outlets totally ignore why Chesa is being recalled. It's not because of nuisance crime or because we don't support criminal justice reform, it's because of issues like this: Murder and gun laws. Thanks so much for doing what the Chron isn't.
